Letter from the Secretary-General

Esteemed delegates and faculty advisors,

It is my honor to welcome you all to the seventy-third session of Harvard Model United Nations—one of the largest, oldest, and most prestigious Model UN conferences around the world—set to take place from Thursday, January 29, 2026 through Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts.

My name is Nicholas Yang, a senior at Harvard College studying Computer Science and Neuroscience and serving as your Secretary-General for the upcoming iteration of our conference. I have been a part of Model UN since my freshman year of high school, having competed all four years of high school, and have been a part of the HMUN team for the past three years, two of which I was a member of the Secretariat. This activity has been a source of personal growth—it strengthens delegates’ skills that they would not normally learn int he classroom: the ability to speak publicly, debate, and collaborate with one another.

Our conference gathers hundreds of Harvard College undergraduate students and thousands of high school students from over sixty countries around the world in the city of Boston every year—it has never failed to amaze me to see how prepared delegates are when they show up to conference and see their performance as the conference goes on. I hope that delegates are able to craft creative solutions to the pressing issues and challenges that the world faces through our committees.

As the countdown begins until the start of HMUN 2026, I am excited to unveil the hard work that my Secretariat has done to make the seventy-third session of Harvard Model United Nations a reality—from improving our conference administration to continuing our substantive excellence.
